Judy describes her experience upon first joining the group something like this, "I knew this was something very different. I couldn't believe she was going to ask me every single week which commitments I stuck with and which ones I hadn't. It really made a difference to me to have us go around the room and have to say what exactly was going on with us." One of the things I encourage in the Reasonable Diet's AIM groups, is for the members to "devise their own diets" -- Judy did, and named her diet the "hunt and gather" diet. Because she and her easy-to-please husband are the only ones at home, she basically keeps no food in her house and just goes to the grocery store every day for what she needs. She laughingly points out that her grown children, who used to drop in a lot no longer do so.... and in fact, to many people... she knows that it wouldn't be a laughing matter. But, Judy felt like after years of accommodating, it was time she took care of herself. (and in truth her relationship with her children is not suffering). But it does just indicate that Judy was determined. She is also an evangelist and her friends who have joined her in the Reasonable Diet's AIM groups are happy that she is. They have a good time in the Tuesday morning group and often go to Panera's afterward for some lunch and more "dishing." |
